💉COVID-19 Vaccine: Additional Dose vs. Booster Dose – There IS a Difference!

Additional Dose: An additional dose is for people who may not have had a strong enough immune response from the first 2 doses (either Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna). Currently, CDC is recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose. If you believe you’re eligible for an additional dose, please click the orange box on this page for Pfizer opportunities, and for Moderna, please call JCHD at 859-885-4149. Learn more about the additional dose by clicking here.

Booster Dose: A booster dose is for people whose immune response may have weakened over time. Booster doses are now recommended for everyone 18 years or older either when they are 6 months after their initial Pfizer or Moderna series or 2 months after their initial J&J vaccine.

You may choose which COVID-19 vaccine you receive as a booster shot. Some people may prefer the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots. Learn more by clicking here.
